The Cheapest Car Insurance in Los Angeles

By jconrad on February 22, 2010

We all see and know the commercials, almost every day, auto insurance and how much you can save by switching auto insurance. If you watch TV at all you know the slogans “Saving money with Geico, so easy a caveman can do it.” “Switch to E-Surance and get animated about car insurance in Los Angeles.” And of course probably the most famous, “Like a good neighbor State Farm is there.” That is only three of the many auto insurers, others like TheGeneral.com, Allstate, Nationwide, and Liberty Mutual just to name some of the most well known.

Each one claims to save you the most money by switching from your current insurer to their business. They show you big numbers like “customers who switched from Geico saved 500 dollars” then an hour later you see a commercial saying that “customers who switch to Geico save 500 dollars.” So which is really the best auto insurance to get? Which one really saves you that much needed 500 dollars, and which ones are just putting up big numbers to roll in the customers?

There are many websites designed to help you find the best auto insurance; you put in your information and they will give you free quotes from many different websites. In reality though it all boils down to when you go and talk to the agents, not what some online website tells you. Before I get to what happens when you talk to an agent here are some facts. People who get in more accidents and get more tickets are more likely to have higher insurance rates than those who have been driving for ten years and never gotten an accident. Younger people usually have to pay more because they just began driving, and are more prone to getting into accidents, of course as your years of driving increase (with minimal accidents and tickets) you insurance rate goes down. Also where you live has a lot to do with your insurance rates. Living in a high society area like Manhattan or Beverly Hills also increases the rate of insurance, of course that has nothing to do with how well you drive, that’s just the nature of the beast. (If you have enough to live in those areas I’m pretty sure auto insurance is low on the list of priorities) One other big thing that goes into the price of your auto insurance is what kind of car you drive. Driving a junk car, like a 1996 Dakota Sport (The car that I call my own) would be a little cheaper that a 2010 Mercedes Benz. The simple reasoning for that is that if I crash my Dakota Sport, that is probably worth next to nothing, let’s say it’s only worth about 2500 dollars, if the damages on my car are more than that the insurer will just pay the 2500 instead of 5000 to repair it. On the other hand if I crash a brand new 2010 Mercedes, worth about 25000 the insurance company will not be very happy with me. Basically no two people, and cars, are the same.

So now to the big question, which car insurer really saves the most money? Which car insurance company is the best of the best the company that will save you, the working American, the most money? The answer is, all of them! There is no auto insurer that is superior to the next. How can this be? How can one company save you 500 dollars yet be dumped by another customer for a different company? Let me compare it like this; let’s say there are two electronic companies, company A and company B. You want a TV from Company A, but then you read the ads and you notice company B is selling the exact same TV for 100 dollars cheaper. So you call company A and tell them what company B is offering, so company A tells you they will match the price of company B and even give it to you for 100 dollars cheaper than company B’s price. You just saved money by comparing prices. It’s the exact same with auto insurance. Let’s say Geico is currently offer me 100 dollars a month for auto insurance, I call All-State and tell them what Geico makes me pay I let them know my driving history and they say they can give me 80 dollars a month for car insurance.

Allstate can now say that I saved 240 dollars a year by switching from Geico; however it’s a two way street, Geico could counter offer with 70 dollars a month, it all depends on your unique auto situation. So if you ask me which is the best auto insurer I say all of them, all you have to do is shop around and compare prices, eventually the highest (well technically lowest) bidder will win your money.
